Flower Garden Group Show at Form Gallery

Garry Nash and Claire Bell, Mount Cook Lily Plate (2015)

Opening at 6pm tonight at Form Gallery in Sydenham, Christchurch, is the group show 'Flower Garden'. Showing are four collaborative works from Garry Nash and Claire Bell, that investigate creating images on blown glass through combining contemporary and traditional technologies and ideas surrounding glass and the New Zealand environment. Furthering the series shown in Cultivate, the four platter works in the ‘Flower Garden’ reference art nouveau glass and contemporary graffiti artists such as Banksy, combining drawing and glass engraving with computer technology. Each plate explores a different aspect of New Zealand's native flora, through new original imagery, colour and cutting.

Garry Nash has been working with glass in all forms since 1978, and received an ONZM in 2000 for his services to glass. For this project he has been working with Claire Bell, who has been working with Garry in the studio for five years. Claire’s background is in painting and sculpture from her time at Elam School of Fine Arts. Together they have been creating new imagery and processes for this project and beyond.

Flower Garden runs from the 8th July through to the 31st July 2015.
